Edd’s parents sleep in separate beds.
They also have some weird obsession with pears.
WHAT DO THE PEARS MEAN
omg what
THERE ARE PICTURES OF PEARS ALL OVER EDD’S HOUSE
I DON’T UNDERSTAND IT
I wanna know why they sleep in different beds
probably severe phobias of injury or the spread of germs
IS THAT A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON THE WALL?
they must have some really weird sex
Separate beds are
- common among older people
- a very effective solution for people who have separate needs
- like say different softnesses of mattress, like if one person has back problems and the other is a diabetic
- or if one person needs their bed very warm to sleep and the other can’t sleep if it’s too hot
- an effective solution when one partner has a sleep disorder or other sleep related disability
- like restless leg syndrome
- or where one partner needs to sleep in a strange position
- or if they hurt when the bed bounces
- beginning to be promoted by sleep researchers for people who grew up sleeping solo in bed
It used to be the case that most people grew up sleeping several children to a bed, and often continued this trend until they moved in with their spouse. This is no longer the case in our society: although it’s not uncommon for children to sleep with other people (siblings/cousins/parents) it’s also fairly common for them to have their own bed. People who grow up sleeping in their own bed often have trouble transitioning to sleeping in a bed with a partner and still getting quality sleep. Rather than turning to sleep medications and caffeine to survive, separate beds are a simple solution that solves the actual problem rather than medicating away the symptoms.
Also, trust me, people still have plenty of sex like this. You just pick your favorite bed for sex and use that one. Or the floor. Look at that lovely rug they have there.
However, I’d say the most common reason is still sleep disorders or other disabilities. For example, in order to not have my arm go numb from the shoulder, I have to sleep with it out at a funny angle that pretty much precludes other people sleeping with me unless we have an orgy-sized bed. I also tend to kick in the middle of the night, which is disruptive to my partner, and I require the foot area of my bed to be about 105F in order for my feet to maintain circulation through the night. It’s just plain easier to sleep in separate beds. My parents have the problem that my mother requires a warm bed like I do, and needs special sheets because of dermal allergies. Her husband requires a cool environment, and tends to steal the covers. End result: she gets no sleep unless she has a separate bed.
