This is the pattern I’ve chosen for my friend’s wedding shawl. The test scarf I made for her in the same mohair yarn revealed
- mohair does not show texture well
- this yarn needs really huge needles
- so big gaps (6yo, for example) are HUGE
- even 2yo is a bit big for a background pattern
- in order for patterns to show up well, they really need to have large openwork areas — lines of yos don’t show up well
- doing cabling with mohair is a gigantic pain

I was going to do Niebling’s “Joy” but I realized that (1) it wasn’t going to work well and (2) was going to be roughly the size of a small house. So I settled on this pattern instead. If it has a name, I don’t know it.

Also, I may add a border of some sort instead of doing e crochet chain cast-off as shown. I’m not sure.

I may or may not post WIP photos, since she follows me on twitter. Hi, Teddy!

Miss Millie Hunt, knitting with her feet.

This lady is cool.  I mean, I understand having to learn to do most things with your feet, you probably have more foot dexterity than I have finger dexterity.  But still, toes are not made for doing that.  They aren’t even opposable.  So this is still awesome.

I love how he’s standing off against the wall like he’s been put in time out.  Maybe because he didn’t appreciate his sweater vest properly.

Sarabee’s Little Yarn Shop in KY is asking for crochet or knitted 7” x 9” rectangles that they are stitching together to make cozy afghans for the victims of the Midwest Tornadoes in the US. Dozens died, many more are left homeless and bereft without any possessions left to their names. :(
The rectangles can be any color, any acrylic yarn (for washing ease), crocheted or knitted, just as close to 7” x 9” as possible.  Mail them in separately and they will stitch them together!  A great tiny newbie project if you want to make just one or a great group project!

I have not yet acquired SABLE

but the time derivative of my stash is distinctly positive.

Knit-In of the Day: The “Snatchel Project” from Government Free VJJ takes a creative approach toward combating the GOP’s ongoing War on Women (or WOW — as in: Wow, are you really waging a war on women?) by inviting knitters and crocheters alike to knit or crochet a vagina or uterus, and mail the result to their male Senator or Congressional Representatives.
Their message: “If they have their own, they can leave ours alone!”
Patterns are available on the group’s site; hand-delivery of the “gifts” is forthcoming. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, no worries: There’s a how-to section on the site.
[mojo.]

And, if you’re not very good at knitting or crochet, that’s okay!  Just add a little tag telling them that it’s got untreated endometriosis because your insurance doesn’t cover the hormonal “birth control” you need to control it, and that’s why it’s all twisted and weird!

You might have a problem when…

…you seriously consider designing a Supernatural Pi(e) shawl, and your biggest dilemma is whether to make it trap demons or protect you from possession.
